This One Time At Scientist Camp...

La Selva is pretty much a camp for grown-up scientists.  Entonces, sorry for not posting for a while, but I’ve been suckered into watching movies and such.  Of course, my tech savvy puts my computer in use every time plugged into the TV and there’s no bitching about it either (like the school year in 437) because nobody else is rocking an s-video output.  I still feel like I’m on east coast time (+2 hours).  Up at 9:00 a.m., tired at 10:00 p.m.

And now for the quick summary of what has kept me from blogging.  Saturday was a little bit lab and little more coffee break.  Fei came down with a malady, so Taylor gave me a hand in the lab.  Sunday I did more work on the website (sexier than ever, check it out).  Monday was the dirtiest day I’ve ever had in the field.  We had the long commute to the primary forest plot, some rain, lots of falling down, and taking diameter measurements, which get you really dirty (and not just regular dirty, but covered in termite poo half the time).

Tuesday was a long lab day with the samples from Monday.  My credit card--expected to arrive Tuesday--did not show up, so I am still very much in the red.  Also got really nauseous early in the day, making lab work a real burden.  Carried on into the night when we stayed up to watch some South Park and Weeds.  Choppers found us in the lounge, as she returned from three weeks on the plant systematics course.

Had awesome sleep and my tummy ache went away by morning.  Today we got a lift over to some La Selva property across the river to core trees in a 17 year old plantation.  So I’m walking along trying to find out where in the plantation we are with Taylor behind and I got my boot stuck on some barbed wire, sending me flying (like high speed) forward, where there was a downed tree with a big ole branch just sticking up at knee-level.  As you may have guessed, my knee whacks the tip of the branch head on and I continue falling forward as the branch goes right into the gut.  Curled up in a ball and laid there for a few minutes.

My knee kills by the way.  I iced it for about an hour at coffee break (where I also lost with style at hearts) and popped some ibuprofen.  Still hurts to get up and sit down.  Around the lab tomorrow, so hopefully I’ll be healed for the field on Friday.

The new Rihanna song (Disturbia) is awesome and I’ve been listening to it constantly.  Haven’t really taken any pictures, haven’t really seen anything awesome.  If you want to see something (or someone) featured on the blog, I’ll gimp over and take a picture of what ever you want.  There was a monkey fight on the bridge midday Monday (we were in the field) and a monkey got tossed into the river (12 meters or so down) by another monkey.  Thanks for sticking around and reading my post.

let's see a picture of your knee. I know steve must feel sorry for you and it would just make him feel better if he could see you're alright.
