No field today, oh well. After breakfast went to the REU Proposal Symposium where the 12 REU students gave presentations about the projects they’ll be doing for the rest of the summer. That was pretty entertaining and summed up before lunch.
After lunch entered data and attempted to watch the Sox/Giants game, but, of course, LA/LA was given precedent in Latin America (?). Who makes these decisions anyway? Discouraged, I joined Debra and Amanda across the way as they tried to repair some holes in the bat nets. Ended up averaging about one per hour and did a lot more sitting around than sewing.
Took this annoying keyboard holder thing off the second desk in our office with the shiny new adjustable wrench. Accomplishments are excellent. Was looking forward to doing some bike riding lessons with Tinny, but she was not lacking excuses. Debated watching the US Open, but decided I couldn’t justify that in the nice weather we were having.
Time flew by and then it was time to go out to dinner (Amanda, Debra, Tinny, Danielle & I). Taxied on over to the Ara Ambigua lodge. I attempted to tell entertaining stories and be my entertaining self, but who knows? Had some crispy platanos and sea bass. After dinner we played a round of pool. Went to sit outside and my camera got a little LCD boo boo. That was depressing, but she still snaps the pictures, so no worries.
Walked out to the main road and grabbed some sketch taxi up the street to a bar called Los Portones. Later on ended up going back toward La Selva at another place called La Y Griega. Hitched a ride back with these Tico brothers and hit the hay hard some time before two. Maybe not the most solid post ever.
At least I remembered an excellent play from breakfast this morning for everyone’s entertainment. Amanda, Debra & I are sitting outside a little before 8:00am and a big ole tour group roles up and is chilling near the comedor…
Jefe-looking lady from tour group (to the group): So you guys work here? (group nods) So where you all from?
Amanda (with gusto): The University of Connecticut (some other stuff), I’m in the first year of my Ph.D.…
Jefe Lady (giddy): Oh! You’re so young!
(Group giggles)
Amanda (superiority complex settling in): Actually I’m ten years older than these guys
Jefe Lady: Well then they must be like 12 (more giggles)
Me (bored from not talking in a little while) (to Amanda): The pigtails take off at least five years
Well, it was funny in the moment, talk to you tomorrow.
